Lee C. Hanson

Lee Constant Hanson was called to rest on April 12, 2021 at his home.
Lee was born on February 10, 1940 in Fargo, ND to Lloyd and Constance (Smith) Hanson. He was baptized on May 9, 1940 at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.
He attended school at Lake Agassiz High, where he was an outstanding hockey player. Through his school years he worked with his grandparents for their garbage company and on the Dahl ranch. He joined the Marines on July 1, 1958 and was honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps on June 30, 1961. While living in Fargo, Lee met Betty Jean Sundheim. They moved to Minot, ND where he started working on the missile sites.
Lee married Betty on May 19, 1962. They welcomed their first child, Karl and shortly after moved to Frazee, MN. They continued growing their family and had four more children, Karen, Jay, Jean, and Eric. During this time, they bought the family farm in 1966. Lee, Betty, and their family dairy farmed for 36 years and he farmed up until his passing.
Lee’s interest included deer hunting (but always waited for his taggers and draggers), fishing (when someone else drove the boat), cutting firewood, card parties, four-wheeling, old country music, old western movies, farming, the Vikings and having a cold beer with his friends and family!
Lee is survived by his children; Karl (Teresa), Karen (Byron), Jay (Lisa), and Eric; his 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Lee is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Jean; his parents, Lloyd, and Constance; sister, Carol; and brother Bruce.
Memorial Services were held on Friday April 16, 2021; 1:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Interment was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Height of Land.
