LuVerna E. Geiselhart


LuVerna Evangeline (Hoeger) Geiselhart of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on December 16, 2021. She was born October 2, 1930 in Northwoods, ND (the eldest of seven children) to William and Lydia Hoeger. She worked at Armour Meat Packing Plant and waitressed at the Ryan Restaurant in Grand Forks.

LuVerna met “the love of her life” Harold on June 28, 1952 they were united in marriage at Evanger Lutheran Church. They co-owned and operated H&H Geiselhart Carpentry with Harold’s brother Harry and his wife Helen. On March 15, 1962 they moved to Detroit Lakes after purchasing the Capri Motel and later the Ridley cabins next to it combining it into one resort. They were known for having a clean, family friendly resort where they had families returning year after year from all over the United States and Canada. The DL city park and Capri Motel was the site of many Geiselhart/Hoeger family reunions that she organized for many years. In 2002, four years after her husband passed away, LuVerna sold the Capri Motel.

LuVerna was active in the church, the lady’s guild, a cub scout leader, a 4-H leader and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. After earning a nurse’s aide degree, she worked at the St. Mary’s Nursing Home.

LuVerna was a loving mother and mentor, a great cook and baker, and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She was also known for her canning abilities and her gardening skills in both vegetables and flowers. Family, faith and education were very important to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Harold Jr. Geiselhart, Farmington, MN, Marshella (Brian) Miller, Champlin, MN, Melody Berg, Fosston, MN, Lynn (Naiyana) Geiselhart, Azle, Texas, Mark (Kari) Geiselhart, League City, Texas, Scott Geiselhart, Fargo, ND, Steven (Jennifer) Geiselhart, Anoka, MN; brother Gordon (Dorothy) Hoeger, Grand Forks, ND, sister Lyla Bloomfield, Apple Valley, California, sister-in-laws Patty Hoeger, Grand Forks, ND and Yvonne Hoeger, Peoria, AZ, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Geiselhart, brothers Richard Hoeger, and Donald Hoeger, sisters Carol (Victor) Mattson, and Deanna (Earl) Lane, and son-in-laws Steve Plante and Dave Berg.

Services will be held December 29, 2021 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN at 11am with a visitation 1 hour prior.
