Elaine O. Arnold, 89, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, October 5 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. There will be a celebration of Elaine’s life at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Gillene Gallatin, officiating. A time of gathering will begin 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wed. Elaine Ovidia Arnold was born July 7, 1930 to Arthur & Christine (Id) Dahlberg in their rural home near Audubon, MN. She attended rural school #21 and graduated from Lake Park High School Class of 1948.
She then attended a one-year teacher training course at Moorhead State University. During her summers, she worked at Swanson’s Grocery in Audubon, Itasca State Park and J. C. Penney’s in Detroit Lakes. She taught in two elementary rural schools in Otter tail County.
In 1955, she married Robert A. Arnold. To this union, two children were born; Robert Wayne and Tammy Layn. They owned and operated Courtesy Cab 1960 - 1969, Detroit Lakes Ambulance 1961 - 1967, Lake Region Travel 1965 - 1979 and managed the Greyhound Bus Depot 1966 - 1975.
In 1963, she was awarded a Distinguished Service Award from the Detroit Lakes Jaycees for tutoring 4 war brides to get their U. S. citizenship.
She is survived by a daughter: Tammy (Ali) Aminian, two grandchildren, Trissa (David) Melnychenko and Manuchehr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, a son, “Bobby”, her parents and 2 brothers, Arden and Lloyd. David-Donehower www.daviddonehower.com
