Glen H. Maurer

Glen H. Maurer, 90, of Detroit Lakes, MN formerly West Fargo ND, passed away Dec 9th 2021 at The Cottage on the Ecumen campus. Glen Howard Maurer was born in Warwick ND on June 1st 1931. He was 1 of 11 children born to Bessie and Fred Maurer. He was raised and attended school in Warwick. He served in the US Air Force from June of 1948 to June of 1952.

On May 26th, 1951 he married Jeannine Halvorson. They lived in Rapid City, SD for a short time before moving to the Fargo area. From there they moved to Bismarck ND before making their home in West Fargo, ND in 1967. Glen and Jean have four children.

Glen was very proud of his military service. He was an active member of the West Fargo VFW post 7564 where he served as post commander in 1983-84. He was also very involved with the West Fargo Amvets. In 2010 he was awarded the AMVET of the year Silver Helmet award at a ceremony in Washington DC as recognition of the AMVET who has contributed most to the welfare of the organization nationwide .

In January 2018 Glen moved to the Ecumen campus in Detroit Lakes, MN. He lived at The Madison until August of this year and then moved to The Cottage Assisted Living building which is also part of the Ecumen campus.

Glen is survived by his children, Glenda Jacobson of Fargo, Garwin (Kimberely) of Sheridan, WY, Twila (Erik) Aslesen of Detroit Lakes, MN and Cindy (Arnold) Ostgarden of Detroit Lakes, MN, his brother Vernon Maurer of Denver, CO, sister Erva Bartlett of Jamestown, ND, brother-in-law Ray Johnson of Fargo ND, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean of 65 years, grandson Dana Jacobson, siblings Leona Edwards, Beatrice Reeves, Bill, Arnold, Elfrieda Billgren, Earl, Ferdinand, and Helen Counard.

Glen touched many people during his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. It is hard to express how much the care he received from the staff at Ecumen means to our family. Visitation : Wednesday, December 15, 2021, 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
