Rosella B. Giefer Olson

Rosella B. Giefer Olson age 97 of Detroit Lakes, MN died October 5, 2020 at Golden Manor Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes.

Rosella Barbara Bollig was born November 11, 1922 in Tracy, MN to Anthony and Barbara Bollig. She grew up and received her education in Marshall, MN, graduating from high school in 1940. On October 28, 1941 she was united in marriage to Maurice Giefer at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. They settled on a farm near Tracy, MN. They farmed in the Marshall and Lynd, MN areas where they raised their six children. She enjoyed the many card parties, square dancing, and trips with all their friends.

In 1958 they moved to a farm near Waubun, MN. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Waubun. She served as president of the Catholic Daughters and was the Priest’s housekeeper. She enjoyed going to her son Wayne’s football games and her son Danny’s wrestling matches.

They later moved to Breckenridge, MN, where they were caretakers of York Manor. She loved sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Following her husbands death she moved to the Silver Birch Apartments in Detroit Lakes, MN. She joined a singles group and met Cameron Olson who she later married. After he passed away she continued living in Detroit Lakes. She was blessed to have her son Danny and his wife Pam who took her out to eat weekly. Also along with her daughter Ginny took turns sharing the holidays with her in their homes. They also took her to many of their grandchildren’s activities. Then she was blessed again when she bought a lap dog that was the love of her life. Then she was blessed again to have her granddaughter Kerry move in with her to care for her.

Rosella is survived by two sons, Gary (Kathy) Giefer, of Webster, MN; and Danny (Pam) Giefer, of Frazee, MN; two daughters, Sherian (Francis Joe) Warren, of Ogema, MN; and Virginia (Stanley) Warren, of Callaway, MN; 17 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Clementine VanDenbrooke; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Maurice Giefer; second husband, Cameron Olson; one son, Wayne Giefer; one daughter, Wendy Berg; three half sisters, Minnie, Lillian, and Ella; four half brothers, Bill, Pete, Tommy, and Dan; and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday October 12, 2020; 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the Church. Interment will be in the Holy Rosary Church Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
