Letter: Dixie Johnson urges yes vote for DL schools

I've been a proud resident of Detroit Lakes for nearly 50 years of my adult life. I'm a former business owner, past city council member and active community volunteer.

Our thriving community is fortunate to have excellent medical facilities, beautiful city parks, a public beach, community/theatre center, Detroit Mountain recreation facility and thriving businesses. All things that young families look for when choosing a place to live.

Unfortunately, our schools have not kept up with the progress. Not only are they outdated physically, such as the 31-year-old "temporary" classrooms at Rossman, we have quite simply outgrown the space needed to provide top notch education.

The school board and staff have worked tirelessly to give us a plan providing the necessary upgrades while meeting the demands of previous opposition. Vote YES on Nov. 6 and let's continue making Detroit Lakes a great place to live, work and learn!
