Perry: Here is how to submit those election letters
In this most unusual and tumultuous year, we also have an election to think about.
That means many of you will be thinking about writing letters to the editor regarding local, state and federal races.
We encourage letters to the editor, and will make it a point to publish in print as many as we can.
A reminder about the Tribune’s political letter policy: There is a charge for these letters to be published. The rate is 10 cents per word, with a 200-word limit. Those 200 words are the body of the letter, not the signature.
What is considered a “political letter”? They are those election-related letters that advocate for or against a candidate, ballot measure or political party.
Here are a few other things that are important to know:
The word limit for paid political letters is 200 words.
Payment for political letters must be paid in advance. Cost is 10 cents per word.
Writers are limited to one letter publication per 30 days -- paid or not.
All letters must include the writer’s name, address and phone number for verification (only the writer’s name and city are published).
Paid political letters will be published on the Opinion page as space allows. They will be noted as “paid” on the page.
The best way to submit a letter is by email to firstname.lastname@example.org . We do not have a staff typist, so hand-written or hard-copy letters will take a bit longer for publishing.
We began charging for letters on May 19, when the first candidate filing period opened.
And, of course, we still accept “regular” letters to the editor, too. Those letters have a word limit of 250, and there is no charge for publication. Otherwise, the guidelines above are also in play.
