As this is going to print, we’ll be just under four weeks until the first day of school for the children of Detroit Lakes.

Obviously, the big story has been the construction at the Rossman, Roosevelt and Middle School sites. As we’ve said, the projects are moving along nicely, and what needs to be completed by the start of this school year, appears to be on track to meet that deadline.

But another project for the school district in the near future is the revision of its Strategic Plan. Anytime an organization embarks on setting a vision or goals, a critical necessity to carry out that task is seeking feedback from the public it serves. To that end, the district will be conducting a survey of its constituents that will ask questions regarding the public’s satisfaction of the school district’s services along with the what people think the school district’s priorities should be as we prepare our students for an ever changing workforce.

With that said, parents with students in the district and school district staff will be receiving a survey in electronic form on or around Monday, Aug. 5. For those members of our community who would like to complete the survey, contact the School District Administration Office at 847-9271 and a survey can be made available either electronically or by paper copy. The survey will only take about 5 minutes to complete.

We look forward to having our community play an active role in setting the mission and vision of its school district. Go Lakers!
