Pedestrian seriously hurt after being hit by pickup on Hwy 34

The crash was reported at 5:21 p.m. on snowy-icy pavement at Highway 34 and 285th Street in Tansem Township, Clay County. It remains under investigation.

A 29-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by a pickup truck while walking on Highway 34, about halfway between Dunvilla and Barnesville, Tuesday afternoon.

Eli Thomas Hutchinson, of Stacy, Minnesota suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Barnesville hospital, according to the State Patrol.

He was walking westbound and was struck by a westbound 2021 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by James Bradley Plath, 68, of Barnesville, who was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, according to the State Patrol.

Clay County deputies, Pelican Rapids firefighters, Barnesville Ambulance, and Life Flight air ambulance assisted at the scene.
