Razor thin margin separates Perham and Detroit Lakes in a battle of top-10 gymnastics teams

The thinnest of margins separated Detroit Lakes and Perham gymnastics on Tuesday night in the first of two dual meets between the top-10 teams this season.

The Lakers pulled out a 140.7-140.6 on Tuesday night as both teams hit their highest totals of the season. Gabby Whitworth turned in the highest all-around score at 37.0 for Detroit Lakes. Jerzie Horner wasn’t far behind at 35.6 in fourth. Whitworth won the floor routine with a 9.5 and tied for first on the bars with :Perham's Aryanna Myers at 8.75.

Avery McAllister led Perham with an all-around score of 36.3. She won the vault and beam events en route to a second-place all-around total. Brittany Lorentz (35.65) and Myers (34.65) finished third and fifth, respectively.

Prior to Tuesday’s dual meet, Perham came in as the eighth-ranked Class A team, while Detroit Lakes was ninth. The two teams will meet one more time in a dual on Jan. 14 before the postseason. The Section 8A tournament is hosted by Detroit Lakes this year.
