Bombers rout Rothsay 55-0

The No.2 ranked team in Class 9-man, the Waubun Bombers, unloaded on Rothsay to clinch the top seed in Section 6A and take the North Tri-County Conference championship outright with an undefeated 8-0 overall record.

Waubun shut out Rothsay 55-0 Wednesday night scoring 27 points in the opening 12 minutes.

Sophomore Payton Syverson followed up a two-punt return performance last week opening up Wednesday’s game taking the opening kickoff to the house 70 yards for an early 6-0 Bomber lead.

Jordan Spaeth rushed for a 38 yard touchdown at 8:43 and completed a 39-yard touchdown pass to Cole Thompson at 4:03 to put Waubun up 20-0.

Ryan Weber scored the first of his two touchdowns at the one-minute mark on a six-yard touchdown run.

Waubun followed up the first quarter barrage with a 22-point second quarter building an insurmountable 49-0 lead at halftime.

Darius Woods-Steichen scored from the nine at 7:34; Weber rushed for a 49-yard touchdown and Sam Rothschadl returned a Wyatt Curtis fumble 60 yards at the halftime horn to add insult to injury.

Ted Lyons scored on a 30-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the 55-0 final.

Total yards were 346-138 Waubun; first downs 12-10. The Bomber defense forced six turnovers, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Weber led all rushers with 115 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.
