Veronica Badurek recorded her second shutout in four games and Jamie Bollig scored the game-winner in a 2-0 Laker victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek in girls' hockey action at Wadena Thursday night.
“Veronica had a great shutout,” Laker Head Coach Gretchen Norby said. “She faced some open breaks and some scrums in front of the net and stayed strong. That’s especially hard after the time in between shots.”
Badurek’s counterpart in net Mackenzie Och played well for the Blue Devils stopping 34 of DL’s 36 shots.
“We put a lot of quality shots on her and she stood on her head.”
The goalie battle lasted through two scoreless periods before DL got both tallies in the third.
Bollig scored at even strength assisted by Samantha Benson and Savanna Nolan for the game-winner at 2:16.
Dani Unruh added an unassisted insurance goal at 7:29.
“The girls played well, it is easy to get frustrated when you put a lot of shots on net and can't get one past the goalie but they stuck with it and found a way. We are still struggling to put a consistent 51 minutes together but we are seeing glimpses of solid play.”
Detroit Lakes improves to 6-3 overall and host a winless Spuds team (0-4-1) Saturday night at Kent Freeman Arena.
“It should be a good test for us against Moorhead.”
