A winless Rothsay Tigers boys’ basketball team battled hard for their first victory but were unable to overcome the Raiders as Lake Park-Audubon pulled away in the second half for a 68-57 victory Saturday.

The first half of play was back-and-forth with 10 lead changes.

LPA answered the opening Rothsay bucket with a 12-0 run to lead 12-2 five minutes into the game forcing a timeout from the Tigers.

"We turned it over way too many times but it was nice to see the guys pull away late," LPA head coach Kyler Haberman said. "I thought Lane Ulmer carried us on both sides of the floor."

Rothsay responded scoring 10 consecutive points to shave the lead to two and continued to chase the Raiders finally catching up for a 20-19 lead with five minutes until halftime.

Five straight trips produced lead changes and seesaw momentum plus a tied score at 25, 27 and 31 before a Logan Moen free throw gave Rothsay a 32-31 lead with 34 ticks on the clock.

The Raiders’ Mitch Hall hit the final basket of the half to give LPA important momentum going into the second half of play.

The lead changed hands four times early in the second half before the Raiders began to take over.

A Lane Ulmer basket gave LPA the lead for good up 401-38 and Tim Brekken added a pair of freebies at the 12-minute mark for a 45-38 Raider advantage.

Six-foot-seven sophomore center played important minutes in the paint for LPA and hit a pair of free throws after being fouled on his sixth rebound for a 50-43 edge minutes later.

LPA stretched the gap to 10 points 62-52 with 4:19 to play on back-to-back baskets by Hall and Ulmer.

Hall led all scorers with 20 points. Ulmer added 14. Ryan Olson scored 10 points.

Moen, a senior, led Rothsay scoring 14 points; sophomore Miles Mudderman duked it out in a battle of sophomores with LPA’s Hall. Mudderman scored 13.

LPA improved to 3-6 and picked up their fourth victory Monday night 39-33 at home over Ada-Borup. Rothsay falls to 0-12.
