The Otters swept the season series from Detroit Lakes with a 5-1 victory Saturday night at home in non-conference girls hockey in Fergus Falls.

Fergus Falls scored twice in the first period to counter just two shots on goal from the Lakers in the opening frame.

Sophie Rausch scored twice in the second period, her first on the power play and second shorthanded to sandwich an even strength goal by Annie Magnusson for a commanding 5-0 Fergus Falls lead at the second intermission.

DL outshot Fergus 11-7 in the second period and 11-8 in the third to hold a 24-22 advantage by game’s end, however, the Otters held all them momentum.

The Lakers' Savanna Nolan spoiled the shutout bid by Otter goalie Jadyn McKeever with the lone Laker tally in the opening four minutes of the third period.

Hailey Sonstegard and Madyson Melgard assisted on the goal.

The Otters were good on their only power play of the game. The Lakers were 0-3.

Kyndra McDougall faced 22 shots on goal, stopping 17.

The Lakers dropped their home opener Nov. 7 to Fergus by a score of 8-3.

Fergus Falls improves to 9-10-1 overall. The Lakers fall to 6-14 and continue on the road at former section rivals Alexandria (10-5-1) Saturday, Jan. 16. Alex won the prior meeting 5-2 in DL on Nov. 19.
