The Laker jazz team placed sixth and the varsity kick team finished in seventh place at the 13-team Alexandria Invitational Saturday.

Rocori swept both competitions with three rank points from the jazz judges. Detroit Lakes scored 19.5 to finish above Alexandria in seventh place (21.5) and were 5.5 points back of fifth place Albany (14). Pequot Lakes was the runner-up (8.5), followed by St. Cloud Apollo in third (12.5) and Becker in fourth (13).

The Laker kick team finished in seventh scoring 22 rank points to place above the eighth place Becker (26.5) and 2.5 points back of Albany and Melrose (19.5) in fifth and sixth places, respectively.

The host Cardinals (8.5) were the runners-up to Rocori in jazz. The Spartans won by another unanimous decision among the five judges (3). Pequot Lakes placed third (8), after a double tiebreaker with Alexandria. Both teams received two second-place votes, two third-place votes and a fourth-place vote. The judges tallied up the points they gave to each team, and Alex won by a narrow 203-201 margin.

The Lakers are back in action Thursday, Jan. 12 at a conference meet in Crosby.
