BASEBALL: LP-A defeats Falcons in opener

Lake Park-Audubon got the bats out early scoring seven times in the opening two innings of the season en route to a 12-6 victory over visiting Fertile-Beltrami Thursday.

The Falcons scored one in the first to take an early lead, but the Raiders responded with four runs in the first and three in the second to post a comfortable 7-1 early lead for starter Marcus Dickelman-Stassen.

Mike Vohnoutka doubled to score Mitch Hall and Jacob Anderson starting the first inning rally. Vohnoutka and Dickelman-Stassen each scored on ground outs for the third and fourth LP-A runs.

In the second, Anderson knocked in Hall; Dickelman-Stassen doubled to score Anderson and scored on a Josh Cigelske grounder.

LP-A added a single run in the third and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to post a dozen runs.

Fertile-Beltrami closed to within 8-6 with a two-run fourth and three runs in the fifth.

Dickelman-Stassen picked up the victory throwing 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked one. Hall and Vohnoutka pitched in relief for LP-A. The Falcons got to Hall for three runs.

Vohnoutka shut the door himself on the Falcons throwing three innings and fanning the side in each inning.
