BASEBALL: Korfe in command in victory over Hornets

Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale shutout Frazee 5-0 in the regular season finale for both clubs in non-conference baseball action at Frazee Tuesday afternoon.

Owen Korfe was in control on the mound limiting the Hornets to only three hits over four innings pitching. Frazee mustered two more hits off the Raiders’ bullpen but were kept off the scoreboard.

Frazee was sent down in order four innings straight from the second through the fifth.

Adam Bauch scored the eventual game-winner on a wild pitch in the second inning.

The Raiders added three more runs, all unearned, in the third inning on two errors and a fielder’s choice.

Bauch made the score 5-0 scoring on a Jarret Kveton double in the fifth.

Thomas Stenger took the loss for Hornets. He pitched 3.1 innings, allowed four runs, four hits, and struck out six.

Jon Hoffmann and Logan Wacker combined for four of the five Hornet hits.

Frazee is 12-8, but finished the regular season losing six of seven games. The Raiders snapped a five-game skid to finish at 6-13.

The Section 8AA playoffs begin Tuesday, May 30. Seeding will be completed Saturday, May 27.
