NDSU senior and former Laker Natalie Roth was the top local finisher at the Minnesota Women's State Open Wednesday at Deer Run Golf Club in Victoria, Minnesota. Roth placed third overall shooting three-under over two rounds.

Roth shot two-under Wednesday after a one-under round to open and finished four shots off the lead held by winner Kenzie Neisen (-7) of New Prague. Rush Creek Golf Club’s Sarah Burnham was the runner-up (-5).

Two other former Lakers were in the field: Sydney Busker finished in a tie for 28th place (76-78 154). Trisa Hutchinson held a share of 55th place (73-91 164).

Herzog headed to the Bison

In other area golf news, incoming Laker senior Maddie Herzog committed to play golf at North Dakota State University in the fall of 2018 following in the footsteps of both Roth and Hutchinson.

Herzog placed fifth overall at the Minnesota Class AA championship in Jordan last June and led the Lakers to the team's fifth state title in the past six seasons.
