The Lake Park-Audubon Raiders bounced back from a tough Zero Week loss at Warroad to defeat the Bagley Flyers 24-14 at home Friday in Northwest District football.
Carter Raaen opened the scoring to give the Raiders an early 8-0 lead on a two-yard touchdown run at 6:42 of the first quarter followed by a Ryan Voge pass to Josh Cigelske for the point-after deuce.
Bagley responded with back-to-back touchdowns on long runs by Lavan Culkins (57-yards) and Jake Ubert (30-yards) and converted one of two point-after plays for a 14-8 lead at halftime.
Raaen added his second score of the game, again from the two-yard line, tying the game at 14-14 with five minutes remaining in the third quarter. His two-point run was good giving the Raiders a lead they would not relinquish.
Voge added some insurance on a 12-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Dickelman-Stassen at the eight-minute mark of the fourth quarter and Raaen pounded in the conversion for the 24-14 final.
Total yards were even with the Raiders gaining 244 to the Flyers’ 240. Bagley gained all but two of their yards on the ground (238), while the Raiders mixed it up rushing for 167 and throwing for 77 yards. Voge completed 8-13 and one TD.
Culkins led all rushers with 119 yards on nine carries and a score and starred defensively making nine solo tackles with two assists.
Raaen had 97 yards on 26 attempts and two TDs.
The Raider defense forced six fumbles and pounced on each one, while the LP-A offense committed just one turnover in the game. A Jaiden Disse hit on Jarret Merschman inside the Bagley 10-yard line set up Raaen’s second touchdown.
Both of the Flyers’ fourth quarter drives ended in Raider takeaways.
LP-A (1-1) travels to Fertile-Beltrami Friday, Sept. 8 in a battle of 1-1 Nothwest (West) District teams.
