Day one of play at the 87th Pine to Palm is in the books with action started in three of the four divisions.

Mid-Am, Seniors and Super Seniors began play Monday, Aug. 5 with the first of two days of Championship division beginning early Tuesday morning.

The top of the Seniors leaderboard is crammed with former champions and Craig Stein is back to defend his title.

Atop the leaderboard sits 2017 champion Dan Ystebo of Fargo after carding a 2-under 69. He is followed by 2016 champion AJ Greff of San Tan Valley, Arizona (71) and Moorhead's Chuck Wiger (72). Kent Spriggs, a two-time Mid-Am champion (2014-15) is a stroke back (73) in pursuit of his first Seniors title.

A little more than one-third of the Seniors field will complete the only round of qualifying Tuesday and Wednesday.

A pair of foursomes remain to complete Super Seniors qualifying and David Andrisen is back to defend his Super Seniors title from last year. Fargo's Tim Rubis holds a three-stroke lead after shooting 72 (+1) Monday. Rubis was the 1999 Championship division medalist, a three-time Seniors medalist (2006, 2012, 2014) and a two-time Seniors champion (2010, 2013) with a runner-up finish in 2011.

With six-time champion Chuck Renner retired from competition, only two former champions Paul Krueger (2010) and Andrisen (2018) are in the field.

A three-pack of golfers are tied for second place behind Rubis with matching scores of 75: Brian McClellan of Fargo, Moorhead's Rick Johnson and Ronald Vincelli of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
