Lakers take three straight sets at Staples-Motley

The Laker volleyball team evened their Mid-State Conference record with a 3-0 sweep on the road over Staples-Motley Thursday.

“Very nice well-rounded effort by the team,” DL head coach Sara Schnathorst said.

DL won the first two sets handily 25-18, 25-18 and hit cruise control in the third winning 25-11.

Teeya Doppler, Haidyn Gunderson and Breanna Price all hit double figures in kills. Doppler led with 16 and had 13 digs; Gunderson added 13 and Price contributed 11 to go with three blocks.

Courtnee Ziegler and Maren Daggett had productive passing games. Ziegler had a team-high 22 assists. Daggett put up 17.

Autumn Kulik had 10 digs in the back row.

The Lakers finished in a three-way tie for second place at 2-2 with Pequot Lakes and Crosby-Ironton in the conference standings with Park Rapids on top at 4-0. The Cardinals were winless in four games.

Since opening the season with tough stretch of six losses, the Lakers are 6-4 to improve to 6-10 overall.

There are two tournaments and two matches left in the regular season.

The Lakers are in action at Sauk Rapids-Rice Saturday, Oct. 7 in a 12-team tournament. DL makes one final home appearance to conclude regular season play Tuesday, Oct. 17 against Frazee.
