Freshman Zane Freeman made the diving finals as part of a big second day that increased California Baptist University's lead and hopes of a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship on day two of the conference swimming and diving meet Thursday night at the LISD Aquatic Center in Lewisville, Texas.
Zach Parry posted an automatic-qualifying score to take fifth on the 1-meter board with 490.5 points. Parry nailed an inward two-and-a-half for 57.35 points to help him beat out CMU's Noah Macomber, who was a top-eight placer at the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships.
"He led the team and finished strong, the top five guys in the RMAC are going to be top eight in the nation, in my opinion," Dive Coach Jeff Couto said. "We do have the most difficult and challenging conference. Any time you're diving above 480 you're an elite diver."
CBU took the seventh and eighth spots in the event, as well, with Garret Chew (411.85) and Zane Freeman (385.60) in those respective positions.
"It was all about Zane and Garret getting in the finals tonight, and they did that," Couto added. "We had all three in the top eight, I couldn't be more proud of them."
