The Crookston Pirates defended their home turf in a physical 2-1 victory over Detroit Lakes in a Section 8A rematch played at the Crookston High School Soccer Field.
Crookston avenged a 2-0 defeat in DL earlier this season.
The Lakers had plenty of offensive chances with 14 shots but got a lone goal from Cole Metelak on a feed from Kale Omang to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 68th minute.
The Pirates scored twice within seven minutes early in the second half. Eric Delorme’s header off a Mason LaPlante corner kick gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Sam Overgaard took a Delorme pass and scored for the eventual game-winner.
Crookston improves to 2-6 overall; the Lakers drop to 3-6 with their next game at Moorhead (6-3-1) Thursday, Sept. 20.
