The Detroit Lakes one-two punch of Tanner Olson and Peyton Nordby had top 10 finishes to lead the boys cross country team to a runner-up finish at the John Hermes Invite in Fergus Falls Thursday, Sept. 27.

Olson placed fourth overall with Nordby in sixth place. Tucker Strawsell finished in 12th, followed by Grant Fritch-Gallatin with a top 20 mark in 16th position.

Blake Weber rounded out the scoring quintet with a finish of 23rd place.

Jacob Knodel of West Fargo Sheyenne posted a time of 16:51 to grab a medalist finish. Olson was 22 seconds off the pace with his fourth place time of 17:13.

West Central Area grabbed the team title scoring 56 points to the Lakers 61. Frazee placed sixth in the nine-team field with 150. The Hornets were led by a trio of runners finishing in pack formation with Grady Larsen in 24th place, Alex Beck in 26th and Christian Carlson in 27th.

Kaitlyn Jorgenson (21:50.9) and Lauren Lokken (22:01.1) recorded successive top 20 finishes in 17th and 18th places, respectively, to pace the DL girls team to a fifth place finish.

The Lakers ended with a score of 122 finishing two points ahead of Little Falls.

Katie McConkey finished in 25th place, followed by Ava Geffre 28th and Morgan Kvebak in 34th to complete team scoring.

Alexandria scored 24 points for a commanding victory while West Central Area (68) and the host Otters (69) battled for second place.

Onnica Stansbury made it a medalist sweep for West Fargo Sheyenne pacing the girls’ field with a winning time of 19:53.2.

Both Laker teams are off until Thursday, Oct. 4 when they race at Perham.
