The Detroit Lakes volleyball team won for the third straight game after defeating Thief River Falls 3-1 Thursday night at Ralph Anderson Gymnasium.
DL opened with a 25-15 victory in the first set.
The teams were tied 10-10 in the first before the Lakers went on a 15-5 run to seal the win. Bre Price’s kill started the run, followed by a Courtnee Ziegler ace. Teeya Doppler put down a kill on set point to give DL a 1-0 lead.
The Prowlers changed pace and had the Lakers off balance in trying to get their offense set up in the second set. The score tied at 19, 20 and 21, but the Prowlers scored four of the next five points to even the match on a kill by Madison Kisch.
After another tie at 10-all in the third, DL never looked back in the set. Jocelyn Patnaude had a block to give DL a 22-17 lead and her kill set up set point that was scored on a Prowler error to put DL up 2-1.
The Prowlers put pressure on late in the fourth trying to get to a deciding fifth set. The Lakers took a 19-15 lead on the longest point of the match with Anna Cihak delivering the kill. A Kisch block of Doppler’s spike from the back row tied the match at 20.
The Prowlers got to set point first leading 24-23, but after a long serve out and a block by Price DL did not allow TRF another chance.
Doppler tapped a ball over the Prowler block to get the Lakers’ first match point leading 25-24. Kisch tied the set at 25 with an answer, but the Lakers clinched the match winning the next two points.
DL improved to 8-6 overall heading into back-to-back games at Pequot Lakes (10-4) Tuesday, Oct. 2 and home against Staples-Motley (8-7) the following Thursday to complete Mid-State Conference play.
