The No. 1 Bemidji High School boys soccer team continued to capitalize on chances in Saturday’s Section 8A quarterfinal game against No. 5 Detroit Lakes, using six scorers to rack up seven goals against the Lakers at Chet Anderson Stadium Saturday, Oct. 13.
The first half was all Lumberjacks, starting in the eighth minute on an Ethan Mock corner kick. The junior crossed it into the 18-yard box for Ben Hess to head toward goal, and Logan Mitchell then headed it over two DL defenders and the keeper for an early 1-0 lead.
Before the intermission, the Jacks extended it to 5-0 with goals from Chase Fillipi, Silas Hess, Mitchell and Galdamez.
Detroit Lakes scored its lone goal of the game in the final minute. Cole Metelak beat Jacks’ keeper Joe Fletcher, assisted by Lucas Schwan.
The Lumberjacks advance to the Section 8A semifinals, where they will host St. Cloud Cathedral (15-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Chet Anderson Stadium.
DL’s season ends with an overall record of 7-9-1 matching their record from 2017.
