The Detroit Lakes volleyball team won three of four matches and wrapped up the regular season with a runner-up finish at the Fergus Falls tournament Thursday, Oct. 18.
DL defeated Pelican Rapids 2-0 in the first round by set scores of 25-22 and 25-17. The Lakers followed up with a 2-0 sweep over Win-E-Mac (25-6, 25-16) and a tight three-set victory over Fosston 14-25, 25-21, 17-15 to advance to the title game.
The host Otters won a pair of close sets 27-25 and 25-21 to capture first place in the gold division.
The Lakers finished the regular season with a record of 13-13 and earned the No. 4 seed in the south subsection of Section 8AA for the upcoming playoffs.
DL will face No. 5 Staples-Motley (9-15) at home Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the opening round. The Cardinals were in DL Oct. 4 and lost 3-1 to the Lakers.
A victory will put the winner on the road at No. 1 Park Rapids. The 21-6 Panthers have a first round bye.
In the other half of the subsection, No. 2 Pequot Lakes (17-9) hosts No. 7 Crosby-Ironton (12-14). No. 3 Perham (17-10) faces No. 5 Fergus Falls (7-20) at home.
Roseau (16-11) is the top seed in the north half of the bracket and plays No. 8 Bagley (3-19-1). No. 4 Thief River Falls (7-18) hosts No. 5 Crookston (11-13). No. 2 Hawley (13-12) hosts No. 7 East Grand Forks (4-22). No. 6 Warroad (9-19) travels to No. 3 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (11-16).
