Detroit Lakes picked up victories in half of the 12 events but lost 113-61 at Bemidji in a Section 5A boys swimming and diving dual Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Senior Tucker Strawsell had a pair of wins placing first in the 200-freestyle (2:00.29) and touching 25 yards in front of runner-up Luke Yartz in the 500-free.

Freshman John Gulon matched Strawsell’s efforts with a pair of wins in the 100-freestyle (54.62) and the 100-backstroke (1:06.46). Elijah Kitzmann was second giving DL the top two 100-free times finishing in 59.97. Jackson Zurn followed up Gulon with a second place backstroke time of 1:11.54.

The Lakers won two of three relays taking the 200 (1:43.63) and 400-freestyle (3:54.81) races.

Micah Solberg added a runner-up finish in the 50-free (26.25).

John Berglund was the 100-fly runner-up (1:10.28).

Zane Weaver placed fifth in diving scoring 138.80.

DL’s swim and dive team are off over the holiday break and return to action Saturday, Jan. 5 in West Fargo.
