The No. 1A Detroit Lakes gymnastics team continues to prepare for the upcoming section championships with victories and upping their scoring totals. The Lakers put up a season-high 151.775 points Saturday, Feb. 2 in a home victory over No. 11AA Bemidji at the Minnesota Flyers Gymnasium.

Four different DL gymnasts picked up victories.

Lexi Yliniemi scored 9.75 to win on vault with Peyton Jernberg (9.7) and Cora Okeson (9.65) helping to sweep the top three medal finishes.

Justine Lawrence scored 9.65 to win on bars with Jackson Hegg and Okeson both scoring 9.45 to sweep the top three.

DL grabbed the top four finishes on both balance beam and floor exercise.

Hegg was the beam winner with a score of 9.5, followed by Lawrence (9.475), Okeson (9.4) and Jernberg (8.95).

Okeson and Yliniemi each scored 9.625 to share the title on floor. Jernberg and Hegg were close behind scoring 9.6 and 9.55, respectively.

Okeson scored 38.125 to win the all around title. Teammate Ellie Hultin placed third overall with a combined score of 36.4.

The Lakers have surpassed 150 points for three consecutive meets and continue to raise their state-best scoring average as the section meet looms closer Saturday, Feb 16 in Perham.
