Norman dethrones 2018 Senior champion

Mark Norman came into Thursday's match as the 16th seed but had plenty of past experience at the Pine to Palm to draw upon in his match with defending champion Craig Stein.

Norman was the 1981 Pine to Palm champion and reached the 1980 final losing to Bill Israelson in a year Tom Lehman was the medalist.

Norman defeated Stein 2&1 to move on and face No. 9 George Theisen, who was victorious over No. 8 Russ Newman.

Three of the top five seeds dropped matches with two former champions advancing. No. 2 Dan Ystebo, the 2017 champion, and No. 3 AJ Greff, the 2016 winner, picked up big wins 6&5 and 8&7, respectively.

No. 12 John Berg won in the only match that went extra holes defeating No. 5 Scott Linnerooth, the 2018 John Rutledge Memorial Award recipient.

Berg will square off with No. 13 Jay Olafson, a 4&3 victor over No. 4 Chuck Wiger

No. 10 Steve Herzog came to the Pine to Palm a titleholder already after winning the Resorters Senior division last week. Herzog will play Ystebo after a 2&1 victory over No. 7 Kent Spriggs, last season's runner-up.

No. 6 Keith Aasen defeated No. 11 Michael Conner 2&1 to force a rematch of the 2016 title match with Greff. Aasen was the Seniors champion in 2015.
