A pair of Minnesotans face off against out of state competition in the Mid-Am semifinals Saturday afternoon at the Pine to Palm golf tournament in Detroit Lakes.
No. 8 James Ford of Prior Lake faces last year's runner-up and 2016 champion No. 4 Scott Uithoven.
No. 2 Jake Witham of Roseville will square off against No. 6 Darren Haley of Bismarck.
Uithoven is not stranger to the final having finished in the top two three of the last four years. He is the only golfer who can keep a new name off the champions list and can become the fourth Mid-Am player to win the title twice joining Perry Piatz (2018-18), Kent Spriggs (2014-15), and Jay Olafson (2009, 2011).
Ford defeated medalist Darin Nelson 3&2 to advance. Witham took out No. 7 Tyler Nelson 2-up. Uithoven was first off the course with a 6&5 victory over No. 5 Matt Parker. Haley defeated No. 2 Kevin Swenson 2&1.
Mid-Am semifinals begin at 2:11 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10.
High, low seeds square off in Seniors
Upsets have reigned in one half of the Seniors bracket while two of the top three seeds face off in the other half.
No. 2 Dan Ystebo takes on No. 3 AJ Greff in a battle of former champions. No. 16 Mark Norman continues his upset bid from the last seed in qualifying and will take on No. 12 John Berg.
Greff advanced with a 4&2 victory over Keith Aasen, a rematch of the 2016 championship. Greff's match with Ystebo will be another finals rematch from 2017 won by Ystebo. Both players have reached the semifinals three straight years.
Ystebo needed an extra hole to dispatch of Resorters Seniors champion Steve Herzog.
Berg defeated two-time champion Olafson 2&1. Norman was a 1-up winner over No. 9 George Thiesen.
Seniors semifinals begin at 2:02 p.m. Saturday.
Defending champ moves on in Supers
David Andrisen's quest for back-to-back Super Seniors titles in in tact after a 3&1 victory over No. 9 John Bartley Friday.
Andrisen will face No. 12 William Kahle, a 1-up winner over No. 13 Doug Taylor. The two last met in the 2018 quarterfinals with Andrisen victorious 2&1.
The other half of the semifinals bracket pits No. 2 Tim Rubis against No. 8 Thomas Wood.
Rubis got a little extra practice time on the course going 21 holes with No. 7 Doug Gillund before pulling out the victory. Wood was a 2&1 winner over No. 3 Brian McClellan.
