The Detroit Lakes softball responded to a pair of losses at Park Rapids last week with a Mid-State Conference sweep at Aitkin Tuesday, May 7.
The Lakers managed only five hits in the opener but got a pair of big flies to seal an 11-1 mercy rule victory in the sixth inning.
Mercedez Bellanger launched a three-run homer and Sara Freeman added a two- run shot to give starting pitcher Madilyn Kirchner plenty of cushion on the scoreboard. Kirchner fanned six batters.
In game two, the Lakers bats came alive and collecting 14 hits in the 12-1 (6-inning) win.
Kirchner (7-2) picked up her second win of the day working the first three innings and striking out four.
Bellanger pitched well in relief striking out four and giving up only one run.
She continued to swing a hot bat hitting two more home runs and collecting six RBI.
Freeman and Taylor Prussia also went deep for the Lakers.
Autumn Kulik and Laken Weaver each had two hits.
Detroit Lakes improved to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
The Lakers face section opponents Alexandria at 4 p.m. on the road Thursday, May 9 and finish the week Friday at Thief River Falls where they take on Bemidji at 3 p.m. and the Prowlers at 5 p.m.
