DL polished off a 13-6 regular season campaign Thursday with a 7-3 home victory over Fergus Falls behind a big offensive day by Laura Prussia.
Prussia was 3-3 at the plate with two home runs and four RBI.
She broke open a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning with a three-run dinger and the Lakers scored an unearned insurance run to go up four runs.
The Otters grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Lakers answered quickly on consecutive two-out singles by Prussia, Autumn Kulik and a double by Mercedez Bellanger (2-3, RBI) to double up the Fergus run.
Prussia’s first home run was a solo shot in the third inning to make it a 3-1 game.
Fergus Falls plated a single run in the fourth and fifth to knot the score at three.
Kirchner who struck out nine Otter batters, picking up her 10th win and 100th strike out of the season.
The game was a likely first round playoff matchup. Official 8AAA seeding will be determined Sunday. The likely top three seeds will be Sartell-St. Stephen, Bemidji and Detroit Lakes.
“We are playing ok going into sections, however we need to be clicking on all cylinders when playoffs begin,” head coach Phil Kirchner said. “We have two practices to get the kinks out. We need to worry about we can do well and our strengths. Solid pitching, great defense and consistent hitting will be the only chance we will have to get out of this competitive section.”
DL’s regular season offensive leaders were Autumn Kulik .534, 3 HR; Laura Prussia .475, 6 HR; Matteya Borah .413; Sara Freeman 5 HR.
The Section playoffs begin Tuesday, May 21.
