The Alexandria Cardinals girls cross country team ran in a pack the entirety of the race to win handily at the Detroit Lakes Invitational Thursday, Sept. 5 at Lakeview Golf Course.

Led by Caitlin Bright, the Cardinals took places second through eighth scoring 20 points for a 44-point victory over second place Shanley. Only Shanley's Anna Bernhardt finished above the Alex pack winning the 5k race in 20:07.6.

Detroit Lakes placed fifth with 128 points led by Katie McConkey (23:55.1) in 28th place. Also scoring for DL were Molly Tinjum (24:10.7) in 30th, Kaitlyn Jorgenson (24:33.7) in 34th, Ava Geffre (24:34.1) in 35th and Kennedy Hegg ran 25:19.5 to finish 41st overall.

Grace Schauer ran 23:31.9 to place 21st and Beth Schauer was one spot behind her in 22nd (23:33.8) to lead sixth place Lake Park-Audubon (138 points).

Frazee had an incomplete team score with only two racers. Braylee Riewer finished in 25th place (23:43.3); Bailey Larsen (27:23.4) was 55th overall.

Frazee shines in boys race

The Frazee Hornets had two top five finishes and put all five scoring runners in the top 28 places to finish in an impressive second place team finish.

Alexandria swept both team races. The Cardinal boys scored 42 points to defeat Frazee by 20 points behind race winner Jacob Kleven (18:01.7).

Hornet senior Grady Larsen was the runner-up in 18:14.2 and junior Christian Carlson ran 18:20 to place fourth. Nathan Johannsen (19:02.3) was the third Frazee runner to cross the finish in 13th place, followed by Alex Beck (19:37.1) in 21st and Peyton Cole (19:58.8) in 28th.

Detroit Lakes senior Peyton Nordby (18:25.3) paced Detroit Lakes to 91 team points and a fourth place team finish with a finish in the top 10 placing seventh overall.

All five scoring DL runners finished in the top 30. Blake Weber (18:57.6) was 12th, Elijiah Kitzman (19:28.9) finished 18th followed by Grant Fritch-Gallatin (19:57.7) in 25th, Sam Fegely (19:58.9) in 29th.

Lake Park-Audubon finished in 10th place led by Taylor Johnson (19:38.6) in 22nd place.
