The Detroit Lakes swimming and diving team cruised to victory at the Crookston Invitational Thursday, Sept. 12.
The Lakers won 11 of the 12 events against Section 8A opponents Thief River Falls, Crookston and Warroad. DL scored 124 team points. The rest of the pack combined for only 62 total points: Thief River Falls 36, Warroad 13, Crookston 13.
Diving coach Bobbi Jo Koons got to see her team in action for the first time this season.
Senior Jackson Hegg scored 191.55 points to place first. Seventh-grader Hope Hamm (148.30) was the runner-up and freshman Alea Disse finished fourth scoring 131.5.
DL swept all three relays.
Marin Westrum, Madi Gerdes, Lexi Gerdes and Evan Westrum started the meet with a 200 SC* meter-medley win (2:21.38).
Kaitlyn Peterson, Evan Westrum, Jessica Bolar and Faith Hamm won the 200-free in 2:04.38.
Lucy Steinke, Faith Hamm, Jennifer Tracy and Peterson polished off the win in the final event winning the 400-free relay in 4:35.42.
Joining Hegg, DL's individual wins came from Faith Hamm in the 200-free (2:25.81) and 400-free (5:10.79), Tracy in the 100-fly (1:09.54), Peterson in the 100-free (1:06.30), Lexi Gerdes in individual medley (2:44.20) and the 100-back (1:21.19) and Madi Gerdes in the 100-breaststroke (1:22.83).
Madison Holland of Crookston negated a Laker sweep of first place in all events with a 50-free victory (30.92). DL's Chelsy Johnson was the runner-up (31.17).
*The meet was conducted in short course (abbreviated SC) to identify a pool that is 25 meters (27.34 yards) in length.
