Bemidji's Sam Hansen scored the eventual game-winner in just the fifth minute of a 5-0 Lumberjacks girls soccer victory over Detroit Lakes at Bemidji State University's Chet Anderson Stadium Thursday, Oct. 3.
Hansen scored on a Jenna Jones corner kick that Lexi Paquette let run deep into the box.
The Lakers held the one-goal deficit to the final minute of the first half. Bemidji's Lindsey Hildenbrand forced a deep turnover before being fouled in the box. Katie Alto took the penalty kick and scored for a 2-0 lead with only 15 seconds before the break.
Lexi Paquette scored six minutes into the half to extend the lead to three goals. Aliya Berard and Hildenbrand also found the scoresheet. Sarah Tangen was busy in the Laker net making 11 saves.
Bemidji improved to 8-5-1 and will be a top three team seeded in Section 8A North. Detroit Lakes dropped to 5-9-1 and currently sits in fifth place of the nine-team section with a final regular season game at home Saturday, Oct. 5 against Moorhead at 1 p.m. Section seeding will be completed Sunday, Oct. 6.
