The last volleyball game out for Detroit Lakes in Thief River Falls was one to put quickly in the rearview mirror and the Lakers had a lengthy road trip to Aitkin to do just that winning in four sets Thursday, Oct. 3.
“We brought home a win which was our goal,’ head coach Lynnsey Machakaire said. “We still need to work on some errors and get to our game. But we saw a lot of good things and we didn't let the one loss get us down. We battled; they had a good team so we knew we weren't just going to walk away with an easy win. So I am proud of the girls and they got the job done.”
Gabby Fredrickson and Jocelyn Patnaude led the Laker hitters with nine and eight kills, respectively. The team combined for 44.
DL built a two-set lead winning the first quickly 25-12 and coming up with points in the clutch to take the second 25-23.
After Aitkin rallied to stay alive with a 25-22 third set win, the Lakers put the match away 25-15 in the fourth.
Ava Jones paced the Lakers at the service line where DL had 10 aces and she was the assist leader of the team’s 44 helpers.
Patnaude aided DL to a dozen blocks; Autumn Kulik had 11 digs; Faith Keller added 10 of DL’s total of 51.
The Lakers went 2-1 on a three-day road trip in seven days to improve to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-State. DL plays again Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Sauk Rapids-Rice tournament.
