Detroit Lakes used consistent serving in a five-set battle handing Hawley its fourth loss of the season 3-2 in Hawley Tuesday, Oct. 8.

“We came out slow and fought toward the end of set one but it wasn't enough time,” said head coach Lynnsey Machkaire. “We came out in sets two and three and got things taken care of.”

The Nuggets captured the first set 25-23 before the Lakers responded with a 25-20 win to even the match and take the lead winning by 10 points (25-15) in the third.

Hawley battled back to tie the match at two sets each taking the fourth 25-20 and built a quick 7-2 lead in the fifth set race to 15 points.

“It was good to see their fight,” Machakaire said. “We are going to have to play Thursday with a few less errors and the intensity of the second half of set five.”
