No. 1 East Grand Forks did not allow a goal to No. 5 Detroit Lakes in a 3-0 Section 8A quarterfinal victory at East Grand Forks high school Monday, Oct. 14.
All three tallies came in the first half.
Brynn Hillman scored on the first of two assists by Chloe Torgerson with the eventual game-winner early in the match at 1:37.
Torgerson set up Kara Ellis for a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute and a Hillman scored her second of the game on an assist by Riley Regorrah in the final two minutes of the half.
Both keepers, the Lakers' Sarah Tangen and Green Wave's Kadynn Melquist, were credited with six saves each.
Detroit Lakes finishes the season with a record of 7-11-1. East Grand Forks improved to 14-1-2 and will host Bemidji in the semifinals Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The No. 3 Jacks defeated No. 2 Alexandra 2-1 in a shootout. The shootout goals were tied at three when Lindsey Hildenbrand stepped up as the fifth and final shooter for Bemidji. She kept the ball close to the ground and scored past a diving Sophia Vinje in net for the game winner, according to a report by Eric Morken of the Alexandria Echo Press.
In the south half of the bracket, No. 2 St. Cloud Cathedral plays at No. 1 Sauk Rapids-Rice Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Crusaders defeated St. Cloud Tech 1-0 to advance. The Storm knocked out No. 4 Sartell-St. Stephen 2-1.
