California Baptist University junior Zane Freeman (Detroit Lakes) qualified for the 1-meter finals and finished in eighth place with a six-five final score 221.60 at the Lancer Dive Invite Saturday, Oct. 19 in Riverside, California.
Freeman scored 258.90 to finish in fifth place in the 3-meter championship scoring 18 points more than his preliminary run of six dives (240.70).
Freeman is coming off a sophomore season where he finished eighth on the 3-meter board (256.70), 10th on the platform (238.20) and 15th on the 1-meter board (227.20) at the Western Athletic Conference championships.
Yliniemi begins Dragon career
Freshman Alexis Yliniemi (Detroit Lakes) made her first appearance for the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons womens' swimming and diving team during the MSUM Penta Dual at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, N.D., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19.
Yliniemi was the top Dragon finisher in 1-meter diving scoring 176.10 points for a 13th place finish. MSUM beat Northern State 144-85 while losing to St. Cloud State 160-82 and Northern Michigan 183-59.

Three former Lakers play in Dragons' loss
The MSUM Dragons team played three former Detroit Lakes football players during a 48-3 loss
Richter had a pair of receptions for 37 yards, a long of 25.
Matt Haire caught one ball for seven yards.
Jake Better had a tackle assist.
Former Waubun Bomber, Darius Woods-Steichen recorded one solo tackle, two assists, 1.5 sacks and forced a fumble.
Hobet Diaz, a senior from Pelican Rapids, had the lone Dragon points on a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Gulon contributing to Nanooks
Syd Gulon won the 100-freestyle (55.81), swam the second leg of a first place 200-medley relay team (1:50.22) and placed fourth in the 200-breaststroke (2:35.69) for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in a 110-92 dual loss to Azusa Pacific University Saturday, Oct. 19.
Friday, Gulon and her 400-yard medley team claimed first place with a time of 4:02.14, more than six seconds over the next finishers.
Gulon recorded a third place 100-breaststroke finish in 1:10.90 and swam the third leg of the winning 200-free relay (1:38.09). APU defeated the Nanooks 114-91 in the first of two duals over the weekend.
Doppler, Dragons drop a pair at home
Freshman Teeya Doppler (Detroit Lakes) had five kills and four block assists in a MSUM 3-1 volleyball loss to Upper Iowa Friday, Oct. 18 at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead.
The Dragons were blanked 3-0 by Winona State Saturday night. Doppler had seven kills two block assists and one dig. MSUM is 8-11 overall and 5-6 in NSIC play.
Doppler is fifth on the team in hitting with 72 kills this season. She ranks second in blocks with 1 block solo and 44 assists.
