The Detroit Lakes girls hockey team completed step two of a very difficult schedule to start the season in a 6-1 loss at East Grand Forks Thursday, Nov. 14.

The Lakers opened at home with a loss to the 2018 Class A runners-up from Warroad prior to the first road trip to the home rink of fellow Section 8A semifinalists East Grand. DL has little rest as the Lakers host last year’s section runners-up Thief River Falls Friday night.

The three section rivals combined to win 59 games last season with Warroad pacing the group at 28-1-1.

East Grand Forks opened a three-goal lead after the first period of play on goals by Annika Beauchamp, Kara Ellis and Kate Johnson.

The Lakers got on the board early in the second period when the sophomore connection of Emma Coley and Olivia Cunningham found the net. Cunningham assisted on Coley’s first of the season.

Ellie McDonald recorded the victory in net for the home team. Leah Honer made her second start for the Lakers.

Detroit Lakes (0-2) and Thief River Falls (0-1) face off at 7 p.m., Friday Nov. 15 at Kent Freeman Arena. The Prowlers opened with a 3-0 loss at Bemidji (2-1).
