The Detroit Lakes boy's swimming and diving team had a good showing at the Section 3A Championship Meet Friday and Saturday in the BTD Aquatics Center in Detroit Lakes.
The Lakers will send six swimmers and two divers to next weekend's state meet in Minneapolis.
"I'm very happy," said coach Rian Heimark. "Everybody dropped time today, so you can't complain about that."
Sophomore Quillan Oak proved to be the Laker's top swimmer, as he qualified for state in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke; placing second in the medley and winning the breaststroke. Oak finished the medley in a time of 2:02.12 and the breaststroke in 1:01.45.
To kick off Saturday's Section finals, the Laker's 200-yard medley relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 1:46.35 to qualify for state.
Sophomore Brandon Olson surprised everyone in the pool by shaving nearly 10 seconds off his preliminary time and finishing third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:07.46 to qualify for state.
To nobody's surprise, Laker junior Jon Melgaard won the diving event by more than 50 points, but it was junior Justin George who had a big smile after finishing in fourth place with 270 points and qualified for the state meet.
