This year’s Hall of Honor banquet for the enshrinement class of 2020 has been postponed to next year due to COVID-19.

The announcement was made on a post on

“It is with sincere regret (that) the Detroit Lakes Athletic Foundation (DLAF) committee members have decided to postpone the 2020 Hall of Honor Banquet to the fall of 2021. We reached this difficult decision as a result of the necessary restrictions that remain in place due to the COVID 19 pandemic that has impacted the world.

“Our goal for the Hall of Honor Banquet has always been to recognize and honor outstanding Laker athletes, teams, coaches and individuals who have made significant contributions to the betterment of Laker athletics. An important component of this celebration of accomplishments is the ability to bring together family members, friends, former teammates and other people who are important to the inductees. Unfortunately, that critical piece is currently not possible due to the difficult situation the world is currently facing. At this time, the state of Minnesota is only allowing entertainment gatherings of up to 50 people and only in an outdoor setting. In order to move forward with the Hall of Honor Banquet this fall, the state would need to increase the maximum gathering capacity limit by 400 percent, allowing groups of up to 200 people. Since we can’t control the weather, the restriction on indoor gatherings would also need to be lifted in order to hold the banquet indoors. The committee decided the likelihood of these restrictions loosening to that extent in a timeframe that would allow for inductees, their families and friends to finalize travel plans was simply unrealistic.”

The banquet was scheduled for Sept. 19.

“We sincerely regret this unfortunate turn of events and hope all of our incredible inductees, their families and friends are understanding of the situation and will be willing to join us for the Hall of Honor Banquet in the fall of 2021. We will work especially hard between now and then to prepare a celebration that will provide the induction class with the honor and recognition they have earned.”
