Gulon NSIC champion for SCSU
St. Cloud State University sophomore Syd Gulon (Detroit Lakes) was busy and successful for the Huskies at Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Swim and Dive Championships in Fargo Thursday, Feb. 10-13.
Gulon swam the third leg of the Huskies’ conference champion 200-freestyle relay team to highlight SCSU efforts on Thursday, Feb. 11 with teammates Alaina Friske (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley), Sarah Moden (Parker, Colo. / Legend), and Kasey Milstroh (Foley, Minn. / Foley). The quartet was crowned conference champions after finishing the race in 1:35.30.
Gulon placed 12th in the 50-free with a personal best time of 24.47 and 13th in the 200-free (1:57.66) after qualifying with another personal best of 1:57.60.
Gulon swam anchor on the 400-medley relay team that placed eighth (3:59.90).
She additionally finished in 15th place of the 100-free (53.91) and swam anchor of the ninth place 400-free relay team (3:36.37).
The Huskies finished second to Minnesota State University - Mankato in the 9-team meet.

Richards polishes off Blugold blowout
Senior captain Jon Richards (Callaway) had a highlight reel goal in the third period of a 10-2 victory for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire over UW-Stout Wednesday, Feb. 17. According to a live report from @UWECHockey on Twitter, while crashing the net, Richards tripped over teammate Andrew McGlynn, but managed to get a shot off over the glove of Stout goalie Brady Meyers while diving in mid-air.
Richards is averaging a point per game through four contests with three goals and one assist. He's a +6 with one game-winning goal.

Thompson undefeated at Augsburg
Wrestling at 165 pounds, freshman Isaiah Thompson (Detroit Lakes) is off to a perfect start for the Auggies. Thompson is 3-0 with a pair of pins this season.
Thompson pinned Olivet (Michigan) College’s Liam Kinjorski in 4:13 and defeated Olivet’s Dylan Briggs in a 7-6 decision Saturday, Feb. 7 at Cutler Event Center in Olivet, Mich.
In his debut at Sexton Arena in Collegeville Saturday, Jan. 30, Thompson pinned Logan Edwards of St. John’s in 2:25.

Torres scores career-high
Sophomore guard Adriana Torres (Pelican Rapids) posted a career-high 24 points for Valley City State University and former Laker girls basketball head coach Vanessa Johnson in an 87-80 loss to No. 17 Dakota State University in Valley City, Saturday, Feb. 13. Torres has started 16 of 19 games averaging 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Prussia hitting .600 for Jimmies
Through four games of the softball season, University of Jamestown junior Sydney Prussia (Detroit Lakes) is hitting .600 (6-10) having started three of the four games. Prussia has scored four runs, with a double, triple, two RBI and a pair of stolen bases.

College Track and Field
Senior Connor Haugrud (Detroit Lakes) helped lead Concordia's middle-distance runners in both the 600 and 800m where Cobbers swept the top four spots in each event. Haugrud placed second in the 800 at 2:06.02 and third in the 600 at 1:29.72.

Cobber junior Jake Kerzman (Detroit Lakes) recorded a season-best in the weight throw placing fifth in the event with a mark of 47-01 at the Cobber Open in Moorhead, Saturday, Jan. 25.

Freshman Abby Syverson (Pelican Rapids) ran a personal best 800m time of 2:29.66 to place fourth at the Frederick P. Baker meet at the Gillett Wellness Center Friday, Feb. 12.
Gustavus senior Elizabeth Kvebak ran a fifth place time of 21:56.90 in the 5,000m run in a victory over Saint Benedict’s and Augsburg on Saturday, Feb. 13 at St. John’s University.
