Mahnomen-Waubun is the last area team left standing after a grueling set of section playoff tournaments.
The Thunderbirds (9-1) will take on Minneota in the first round of the Class A state tournament on Friday in Monticello. Mahnomen-Waubun beat Polk County West (7-2) 12-3 on Oct. 30 and Ada-Borup-West (8-2) 30-7 last Thursday at the Fargodome.
Lake Park Audubon
The Raiders went into the Section 6A tournament as the seventh seed and suffered a first-round loss to Pine River-Backus (8-2).
The Tigers beat Lake-Park Audubon 30-0 on Oct. 26. They went on to lose to the eventual section champions, third-seeded New York Mills, on Oct. 30. New York Mills (9-1) beat fourth-seeded Breckenridge (6-5) 32-0 last Friday at the Fargodome to win the 6A championship.
Lake Park-Audubon finished the season 2-7, with a 1-4 conference record. The Raiders were 0-2 in section play this fall.

Frazee
The sixth-seeded Frazee Hornets also didn’t make it out of the first round after a 36-0 loss to third-seeded Hawley (5-5) on Oct. 26.
Hawley eventually lost to Pelican Rapids (7-3), who then lost to Barnesville (8-2) last Friday in the Section 8AA title. The top-seeded Trojans take on Eden Valley-Watkins (9-1) in the first round of the Class AA state tournament.
The hornets finished the season with a 2-7 record and went 0-3 in section play. Both of Frazee’s wins were in conference play over Parkers Prairie and Roseau.
