Mikayla Avila was awarded the Ironman award at the Iron Range Golden Glove boxing tournament Friday, at the Hibbing National Guard Armory.
Avila, who trains and fights under the tutelage of Chris Holt at Lakes Area Boxing, stepped into the ring to face Iron Range Boxing's Brittany White.
The two ladies boxed four rounds before the fight went to a decision with White getting her hand raised.
Avila was awarded the Ironman despite losing the bout.
According to Holt, this award is given to the person on the card that shows the most heart, grit, sportsmanship and a good representation for their team and the sport of boxing.

"Mikayla works hard inside and outside of the gym, and represents Lakes Area Boxing, the sport, and Detroit Lakes in a great way and I feel grateful to have her on the team,” Trainer Chriss Holt said. “She is a hard working individual. She earned that award."
