Detroit Lakes Post 15 and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Post 397 split an American Legion baseball doubleheader Tuesday, June 15, at Washington Park.
Blaine Henderson pitched a complete game in the opener to lead DL to a 5-1 victory.
D-G-F starter Grant Anderson held Post 15 scoreless through four innings and had a 1-0 lead going into the fifth inning of a fast-paced pitcher's duel.
DL had one hit through the first four frames, a leadoff single by Kyler Johnston in the third.
Post 397 got on the board in the top of the first on an Anderson single that scored Jordan Summers.
Anderson issued walks to Mason Omberg and Johnston to sandwich a hard single by Henderson to first base and DL had the bags loaded with nobody out in the bottom of a four-run fifth inning.
Omberg and courtesy runner Markus Lyman scored on a Grady Kirchner base hit to take a 2-1 lead.
Jake Bishop reloaded the bases on a wild play. His bunt attempt popped straight up in the air down the third baseline. Anderson dove to try to make the catch, but missed, touching the ball in fair territory to allow Bishop first base and the runners to move up.
Andrew Kulik hit a one out sacrifice fly to plate Johnston.
Kirchner scored from second base on a Jacob Thomas line drive to left field for the 4-1 lead.
Henderson worked around a sixth inning single with a strikeout and two ground ball outs. He had 10 strikeouts in the game to go with three walks in a complete game gem on the mound.
Detroit Lakes added an unearned run on a bad pickoff attempt at first base to bring home courtesy runner Landon Mousseau from third base in the sixth.
Grady Kirchner led the DL offense going 1-2 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
The teams played a five-inning night cap won by the visitors 5-3.
D-G-F used a four-run fourth inning of their own to break open a 1-1 tie.
Detroit Lakes answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Bishop and Carson Rogstad scored for DL. Both runs were unearned.
DL’s only lead of the game came in the first inning on a Jordan Tucker RBI single to score Thomas.
D-G-F’s Kayden Camacho was 3-3 with a run scored.
Thomas, Henderson, Tucker and Rogstad had one hit each for DL.
Zack Oistad took the loss giving up five runs in three innings. He fanned one and walked four. Hunter Korth pitched the final two innings of relief.
Colby Schreiber was the winning pitcher. He held DL to four hits, allowing one earned run with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Detroit Lakes is 5-4 on the season. Post 15 hits the road for a doubleheader at Wahpeton Post 20 Wednesday, June 16. Wahpeton is coming off a tournament victory over the weekend in Watford City, North Dakota, where they outscored four opponents by a total of 54-8.
