DL boys move to one game out of first in the Mid-State

Detroit Lakes completed the season sweep of the Gobblers and moved to within a game of first place Pequot Lakes in the Mid-State Conference after a 66-45 boys basketball victory Thursday night in Aitkin.

The Lakers opened a double-digit lead in the first half going to the break up 38-24.

Logan Pratt and Gabe Hanninen led DL in scoring. Pratt scored eight of his game-high 14 points and Hanninen scored eight of his 11 points. Hanninen hit three times from the arc in the game.

Aitkin was led by Kade Hopperstad’s 13 points. Garrett Westerlund added a dozen.

The Gobblers were consistent at the free throw line sinking 13 of 16 (81 percent). DL answered with 17 makes on 27 attempts (63 percent).

Jake Bettcher was the third Laker in double figures with 10 points.

Aitkin lossed for the ninth consecutive game falling to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Lakers have won three straight games for the first time this season to move to 5-8 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-State. Pequot Lakes is 5-1 atop the standings. That lone loss was to the Lakers in DL Jan. 16.

Winless Thief River Falls (0-13) is in town Saturday, Jan. 20 for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off.
