DL girls lead for the entirety at Staples-Motley

An 11-0 run to start the game created plenty of cushion as Detroit Lakes led for the entirety in a 67-53 Mid-State Conference girls basketball victory at Staples-Motley Friday night.

The Lakers led by as many as 16 points in the first half at 36-20 on a pair of free throws by Lauryn Manning.

Manning was perfect from the stripe making 12 of 12 attempts in the game.

A late three-pointer by the Cardinals’ Kaitlyn Smith pulled Staples-Motley to within eight points at halftime trailing 38-30.

The Lakers continued to hold the Cardinals at bay despite Manning and Bre Price being in foul trouble.

The Cardinals pulled to within seven points at 55-48 with two minutes to play but the Lakers sealed the win with a 12-5 run.

Price led all scorers with 25 points. Manning and Lauren Tschider had 14 and 11 points, respectively.
