Bettcher leads DL boys to victory in Aitkin

The Detroit Lakes boys basketball team defeated Aitkin 65-43 to stay undefeated in Mid-State Conference play and evened their overall record at 5-5 winning on the road Friday, Jan. 11.

Senior Jacob Bettcher scored a game-high 26 points, including a steal and a jam in the first half to pace DL to a 31-23 advantage at the break.

The Lakers clamped down defensively holding the Gobblers to 29 percent shooting from the field and 43 total points while putting up 34 of their own in the second half.

Ben Stearns added 11 points; Gabe Hanninen recorded nine.

Bettcher leads DL in scoring this season averaging 17 points per game. Stearns is the only other Laker with an average in double figures scoring 13.3 ppg. Hanninen (9 ppg) is third on the team.

Detroit Lakes outrebounded the Gobblers 39-30 and the Lakers shot 45 percent from the field.

Both teams were picking pockets. DL had 10 steals and Aitkin (1-8, 0-3) nine.

Junior forward Kade Hopperstad led the Gobblers with 10 points.

DL is 3-0 in conference games and travels to 3-6 Thief River Falls looking to sweep the Class AA Prowlers. The Lakers defeated TRF at home 77-64 on Dec. 20.
